Music

From participating in traditional choir and contemporary ensemble, to listening to and enjoying performances -- music is central to life at St. Paul's.

Chancel Choir

The Chancel Choir sings at the 10:45 liturgy and specializes in singing the great hymns and historic music of the Church. Supported by our magnificent Schantz pipe organ, 1998, and other instruments, this choir of college-age and adult singers offers wonderful choral anthems, solos, and descants, and leads our singing of Psalms and chant. We rehearse Thursdays during the program year from 7:30 until 8:45 PM and again on Sunday morning at 9:45 AM. Music reading ability and choral singing experience are a plus but not a requirement. Chancel Choir is a great source of fellowship, musicianship, and spirituality -- please join us!

Worship Bandband-in-black-august-2023-325-medium_199

Our worship band leads us at the 8:45am service, and at other combined worship services throughout the year. The ensemble includes piano, guitar, bass and other instruments. Both teens and adults participate in this musical ensemble. They rehearse Sundays before church. Contact Bob at bmelvin@stpaulspgh.org if you’re interested in joining the fun!

Bell Choirunnamed_906
Do you love the beauty of a bell choir? Would you like to be part of a bell choir at St. Paul’s?
Being a ringer in a bell choir does NOT require a musical background. We will teach you what you need to know! The only qualifications you need are:

  • Interest in being part of a bell choir
  • Availability to rehearse once a week in the weeks leading up to performances
  • Willingness to learn basic musical notation
  • Desire to make friends and build community around music
Bell Choir currently rehearses on Thursdays at 6:30PM. If you are interested or would like to learn more, please contact Jan Littrell at janlittrell@gmail.com or Steven Cosnek at stevencosnek@gmail.com. We want to hear from you!

Children’s Musicunnamed_708
Children regularly learn music, including playing instruments like the Ukulele, percussion, and chimes in Children’s Chapel during the 8:45AM service. For more information about Children’s Chapel and its musical components, please contact the Rev. Laura Di Panfilo at laura@stpaulspgh.org.

St. Paul's Concert Series

Concerts and recitals are a vital part of our music ministry. These include organ recitals, choral concerts, small ensemble, and solo artists. The St. Paul's Concert Series committee offers these concerts as an artistic outreach to the community. Most concerts and recitals are ticketed events or an asking for donations at the door.

    Bob Melvin

Youth Minister and Director of 8:45 Music

Bob joined the St. Paul’s staff in August 2021, bringing a deep love of both music and community to his roles, and having spent most of his adult life in the neighborhoods where those streets intersect. He has a degree in journalism from Penn State University–where he met his future wife when she arrived for graduate school and he, after graduation, had decided to stay and start a band–and has spent time as a writer, musician, and stay-at-home dad.

Bob lives in Dormont with his wife Karen and his sons Elijah and Jack, and they have joyfully attended St. Paul’s since 2014.

Give Now Pledge Food Pantry Endowment Fund Amazon Smile

Why Give? God asks us to share our time, talent and treasure. A life of generosity is at the root of Christianity. We encourage you to think about what a meaningful gift would be for you.

When you give to St. Paul's you help fund our ministry in the community, our worship, and the staff that supports our community as we strive to be God's hands and feet in the world.

Thank you for your ongoing prayers and support.

    Give Now

Each year, St. Paul’s asks parishioners to say how much they are going to give the parish over the next year. This is called a pledge. Some parishioners set up a recurring gift online -- this counts as a pledge too! St. Paul’s relies on parishioners to make a pledge or a recurring gift so that we can keep the lights on, celebrate the Eucharist, work with our community partners, pay staff, and run all the programming that the parish depends on. Your pledge or recurring gift keeps St. Paul’s running.

    Stewardship 2024

Thank you for prayerfully considering a donation to the South Hills Food Pantry, which benefits neighbors in need across our region. Please click on the button below to make your contribution.

    Food Pantry

The St. Paul's Endowment Fund is the cornerstone of a long-range program to provide future financial stability for the parish. It is created through bequests of money and property. Once, invested, the bequests provide income for the special needs of the parish and designated programs.
