Summer Service Opportunities in Carnegie
Summer 2021 is finally here! We made it! And as in every change of season, you might be experiencing a change of pace, a change of schedule, or maybe just a change of mood as the sun remains in the sky longer and longer each day. Here at St. Paul’s we are experiencing a shift in our in-person worship, bringing back the all-important donut table, and taking a break from some of our book groups. This summer we are also leaning in more to our partnership with St. John Carnegie and their important work of addressing food insecurity needs in their community.
We have now been partnering with St. John for 3 years, and during that time, they have leveraged community relationships to create a variety of ministries that meet immediate needs in an efficient manner. We have joined in this work by supplying bags of groceries on a weekly basis that are distributed to senior and low-income apartment buildings in Carnegie. We also have joined in the meal distribution program over the summer months; it provides breakfast and lunch for kids that rely on their school food program for those meals during the school year. This summer, we are testing out a second site for meal distribution in addition to St. John’s, that will provide meals to those for whom St. John’s is too distant.
We have made a commitment to serve meals twice a day on both Mondays and Fridays throughout the summer. This will require an all-hands-on-deck level of participation by our parish! Our commitment to this ministry is a reflection of our parish’s commitment to being Christ’s hands and feet in the world. The change of pace that the summer brings may allow you to serve in this ministry. Please consider how you or your family may be led to give a couple hours of your time this summer in service to our neighbors in need. Click here to sign-up.
